Grl Pwr: The strength behind Someone Somewhere

This 2022, we want to honor the women who make this dream called Someone Somewhere possible, by sharing their stories and conveying their advice, anecdotes, and opinions on gender equality and diversity, which we seek to promote within our team and in our community. Stay until the end and discover the amazing stories of powerful women.

Someone Somewhere committed to equality

Over the last decade, we have sought to balance the percentage of men and women who are part of our team. Today, 54% of the SS team is made up of women; at the same time, 57% of leadership positions are held by women. This search for equality is reflected not only within Someone Somewhere, but also in the communities of artisans with whom we collaborate hand-in-hand. Of the more than 280 artisan stories, 75% are women: mothers, students, and daughters who have just discovered the world of crafts. Also, through this commitment to our communities, we align ourselves with two of the  Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the UN: 5) Gender Equality; 10) Reduced Inequalities.

What our “Someones” think

79% of the team believes that we promote diversity within the company, and 95% of the team believes that a work environment of free expression is fostered. Likewise, 91% believe that cultural diversity is promoted and respected. And our achievements don't end there. We invite you to learn more in our 2021 Impact Report.

Now, what better way to commemorate Women's Month than by honoring the women of SS. We want you to connect with them too, so we're sharing some of what they shared with us.

Yazmin Arroyo - PRODUCTION MANAGER

My development in the textile industry has been very difficult; I have suffered a lot of machismo regarding the positions I have achieved throughout my professional career. My personality has helped me, but for Mexico, my character is very rough; if I lived in a country with female emancipation, it would be funny. This feeling of not being in balance due to the culture I live in sometimes confuses me.

Susana Basurto - Head of Brand and Innovation

Since I was little, I have been taught to be grateful. Without a doubt, living every day grateful for who I am and what surrounds me has been key to achieving my results and living in peace. I am proud to try to have a balance in my personal and professional life, in order to always give my best version in both ecosystems.
