We spoke with Gloria Ortega, the creator of this hug machine, and this is what she told us.
What inspired you to design the Cozy Mask?
The need for a multifunctional piece. We sought to develop a mask that, in addition to protecting us from viruses, could cover other daily needs. Cozy Mask is a warm hug that gives us the versatility of using a single piece in four different ways to cover different needs in one format.
What are its advantages?
Mainly that you can use it in 4 ways.

- Face mask to protect you from viruses
- Ideal for this time of year to use as a Christmas hat
- Use it as a beanie to tame those rebellious hairs
How many hours of work are needed to make one?
Each Cozy Mask takes 4 hours of knitting using a technique you surely know from watching your grandma knit; it's special, traditional, and holds a lot of meaning for the community we work with.
What is the positive impact behind the Cozy Mask?
It is the first accessory we developed that is 100% made in a new community with artisans from Santiago, Hidalgo, using the knitting and crochet technique. The same technique allows us to have a versatile accessory that can stretch and adapt to the four main functions we seek.
How does the Cozy Mask fit into your daily life?
It's the best ally for outdoors, because it can protect you from the cold, from viruses, and it's like your grandma's hug, it can go anywhere with you and you can use it at any time.
What is your favorite color?
Wine red because it seems like the new basic in terms of color and I associate it with Christmas.
