Let's Celebrate Pride Month with Everyone Collection!ย
๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ’›โœจ

June, Pride Month, has arrived, bringing with it all the colors of the rainbow. At Someone Somewhere, we celebrate diversity and closely support the LGBTQ+ community. With the Everyone Collection, we want everyone to feel part of this beautiful story of struggle and celebration commemorated year after year.

Today we are joined by Alex Vela, better known as VelaTronic, a chef, Youtuber, and skincare guru; the two halves of the favorite sapphic channel Conder&Name:ย Doris Name, content creator and poet, and Iza Macondo "Conder", who is also a musician; Cris Vรกzquez, a TikToker on the gay side of TikTok, obviously! As well as friends of the brand: Pedro, magazine editor, and Majo, television producer.

They all share their experiences about Pride and why this month is important in their lives. Join us!

ย

ย What is Pride to you?

Majo: It's a space where I can find a community that understands all the fears and all the love that a homosexual person has had their whole life. I personally grew up in a family where being gay wasn't demonized, so Pride for me is finding people who think like you, feel like you, and perfectly understand what you've been through.

Alex: As the name says, it's feeling proud of who you are; it's not being afraid. We are in a time where it's increasingly necessary for more people to dare to be genuine. For a long time, people lived in the shadows and the famous closet. It's time to know that there's nothing wrong with being part of the Community, to normalize things, to make a lot of noise. It's very important that companies join in all this for Pride Month because it raises visibility. I think Pride is precisely about that, about being inclusive, about us all being people, and that, in the end, love is love.

Conder: It's simply the movement that one has to join when you dare to be yourself, without fear of breaking the rules or of what others will say.

Pedro: Above all, it's the freedom to show ourselves as we truly are, to realize that being different is not a bad thing; on the contrary, there is a very interesting richness in diversity and in the different ways of being and seeing the world. It is in these details that we find the things that make us unique. With this particular way of seeing ourselves and doing things, we can imprint our mark on all aspects of our lives: work, our families, our friends, and the circles we move in.

Doris: For me, it's feeling proud of who I am. For many years, people had to live in hiding; there are still places where one has to live that way. And I believe that part of what I do, what you also do, is to provide that opening so that more people can feel free to be who they are.

Cris: It's feeling proud. More than a march or a celebration, it's a fight we must continue to wage, because, even though it's already 2021, we still face stereotypes and social problems that limit us and prevent us from being who we truly are. Pride is fighting every day for personal acceptance, but also for finding a way to make the movement more organic and less forced. It shouldn't just be a one-month thing, but something we need to do every day for ourselves and for others.

What makes you most proud of yourself?

Majo: What I'm most proud of is who I am. It took me a long time to have self-love, precisely because I grew up thinking that who I was was wrong. For 30 of my 31 years, I grew up thinking I had to be someone else for people to like me or for my family to accept me, even though I came out very young, at 15-16, it was a tough journey. Today I can tell you that what makes me most proud of being who I am is being who I am, literally, accepting what I love and accepting what I like.

Alex: Not being afraid of what others will say makes me proud. A while ago I decided that I was going to be myself and that I wouldn't care what other people thought about what I like and don't like, because in the end, although Pride is a moment of unity, we shouldn't forget that we are also individuals and that this individuality is what makes us people, makes us human, and we should be proud to be ourselves.

Conder: Honestly, many things. One of them is that I dare to be myself without fear, I dare to inspire all those people who need that little push, and I feel that thanks to people's affection, I have become that spark that many people lack to take that step and dare to be themselves.ย

Pedro: Having reached a point of acceptance. For everyone who has gone through the process of discovering themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or whatever, there's a process of assimilation and acceptance that is experienced in very different ways. But when you reach the end, you manage to free yourself from a kind of ceiling that prevents you from reaching your potential in many ways. For me, showing myself as I am to my family and friends has made my relationships much more honest. Luckily, I didn't experience any rejection. On the contrary, I've been able to be myself, say what I think, and that makes me very proud. I'm proud to have accepted my timing and my process. Professionally, starting this year, I'm at the helm of a national circulation men's magazine that is openly gay, and that excites me a lot, because my sexual orientation hasn't been a barrier preventing me from reaching this position. To this day, I'm very proud of all the years I've worked in the editorial world.ย

Doris: In general, it would be my values, my way of seeing life. The desire to share something with the world and also, above all, that I can be myself and have been able to live love freely, and I think that is something very privileged, perhaps, but it has been a part of me.

Cris: More than anything, what I'm proud of is that I love myself just the way I am, and I accept myself, and that's why I have the capacity to love and accept others, even if they don't have the same opinion or point of view as me. It's important to learn to love ourselves first to be able to open our minds and accept that we won't create conflict because others think differently. When you don't feel good about yourself, you're on the defensive all the time, and you tend to give off bad vibes or energy.ย

What does this collection represent to you?

Majo: I've always been someone who looks for the flag on clothes, accessories, and so on, and many people say, "Why? Why do you want people to know you're gay?" Well, that's exactly it. If a proud person can wear the colors of the rainbow and say, "Yes, I'm gay, and that's awesome," then that's it. So, for me, this collection is saying, "Yes, this is who I am, and I love being it."

Alex: For me, things shouldn't have a gender, especially clothing and accessories. That's why I love Everyone Collection, because it's for everyone, whether you're a man, woman, trans, non-binary, ally, anything. In the end, I think you'll find something in the collection that will be for you, that adapts to your lifestyle, that you can incorporate into your daily life, and that's cool, because, in the end, who doesn't want color in their life.ย

Conder: Without a doubt, it's a very cool collection because it's a brand that collaborates with Mexican artisans and dared to break the mold! Simply the fact of launching a collection inspired by Pride means so much to me. Without a doubt, everyone should have at least one item from the Everyone Collection.

Pedro: Ultimately, clothing is always a means of expression. Deciding what we wear each day to go out and show ourselves to people is a way to reaffirm our identity. This type of collaboration offers another alternative for people to show who they are through what they wear. That seems incredible to me, because throughout history, fashion has been a way for people to identify and unite. You don't need to be gay, lesbian, bi, or trans to choose to wear this collection. An artisan from Oaxaca, who perhaps doesn't know it, is embroidering a garment for another person in another city or another part of the world, and this garment has the purpose of making that person feel better about their identity. It's incredible!

Doris: It represents the work being done in support of the Community; for many people, it's just a thing for this month, but for some, it's an everyday thing. You represent pride, and I think that's a very big and cool job. Plus, the products are awesome and have the colors of Pride!

Cris: For me, it represents what I've tried to do with the movement itself. Wearing the colors is getting into the gaydar in a very visible way. You can wear an accessory that identifies with you and makes you feel free to express yourself, maybe not with words, but with a symbolic object, and that's cool. I really like that they use the colors of Pride; the flag is there, but the shades and color palette are very subtle, which makes it not clunky or too heavy.

A message for all those who will read you.

Majo: All the challenges life throws at us are for growth, and even if you often think you're in a situation you won't get out of or that no one will accept you for who you are, I want to tell you that everything gets better. Everything gets better when you realize who you are and your worth. So, no matter how hard it is, love yourself and be proud of who you are, of what you like, whatever it may be. Accept yourself! That's the first step to loving yourself.

Alex: Every person's journey is unique; never feel pressured to shout to the world who you are. In the end, everyone's timing is just that, individual, so I simply hope that eventually you'll have the good fortune and courage not to care what other people say, because in the end, the only life being wasted is yours, not others'. Live your life, enjoy it, be happy, live it, and be proud of who you are.

Conder: Thanks to those who already know me, and for those who don't, I invite you to check out my social media, to join this movement, to dare to have fun. I love you all very much.

Pedro: From my experience, showing who we are is often very scary, and overcoming that fear can be a lot of work. But I believe we should be patient with ourselves, accept our processes, digest them, assimilate them, and take steps as we feel ready. That's super important. Also, regardless of how complicated our family or professional context may be, we can always find people willing to support us, to listen without judgment. It's important to build our own safety net, and most likely for that to happen, we have to dare to take the first step, open up a little more, and show who we are in these safe spaces. When we dare to do so, it definitely changes the way we are, move through the world, see ourselves, and show ourselves to people. It's about not rushing, but taking steps to reach that point in life where we want to be.

Doris: Be yourselves, dare to break paradigms, to go against what is established, which doesn't mean it's right, because living authentically and experiencing real love is the best thing we can do and what we are here for. I would invite everyone to be who they are and dare to love.

Cris: You always have to be yourself, because when you're genuine, people perceive it, and you start to surround yourself with genuine people, and that's one of the best things that can happen to you in life. Having real people who genuinely love you, support you, and accept you as you are. I was surrounded for a long time by people who perhaps didn't agree much with my ideas or what I do. Their criticisms and attitudes made me feel bad, but when I found the people who love me as I am and accept me, I discovered my safe place where I can be myself without pretending anything, and they don't necessarily have to agree with everything I do, every mind is a world. However, they give me healthy advice, without needing to attack me or for me to always be on the defensive. It's difficult, it's a process, but if you have the desire to do it, to reach that point where you can say "I love myself with everything I am, with everything I have," you're already there.
