Grl Pwr: the stories behind Someone Somewhere

Andrea Rodríguez - People Coordinator

What are you most proud of in your life and/or career?

Wow! Without a doubt, reaching Someone Somewhere. Almost two years ago, I started as an intern at SS, and since then, I've met wonderful people willing to grow with me, share their knowledge, and learn from those around them. This experience not only impacted my professional life by allowing me to develop my skills and acquire many more, but it also brought me incredible friendships and changed my outlook on life for the better.

Daniela Ordóñez - B2B Design Lead & Account Manager USA

What is the balance between your personal and professional life?

I don't think I've always known how to do it, but I've been improving over the years. I'm very fortunate to have a flexible job that allows me to give 100% while still respecting my personal time. Working from home played a huge part in my learning how to balance; I'm 10000% more productive during my work hours, my distractions are fewer, and I can mix in activities that do me good in my daily life. Something I love to do is exercise during my lunch break; it's a great way to release stress on very busy days and come back with lots of energy for the rest of the afternoon. Before, this would have seemed impossible to me.

Gabriela García - Impact Analyst

What does empowerment mean to you, and how do you live it?

Being brave in adverse situations for worthy causes.

Yazmin Arroyo - Production Manager

Tell us a little about your personal story, your successes, and any lessons you've learned.

My development in the textile industry has been very difficult; I've suffered a lot of machismo regarding the positions I've achieved throughout my professional development. My personality has helped me, but in Mexico, my character is considered too strong. If I lived in a country with female emancipation, it would be funny. This feeling of not being balanced because of the culture I live in sometimes confuses me.

Gloria Ortega - Design Lead

What makes you most proud to be a woman?

Seeing myself in other women and admiring the profound strength that lives within us.

Alejandra Hernández Acosta - Accountant

What things in life are you passionate about, what moves you?

I am passionate about learning and transmitting that learning. Being able to teach many women that they are not alone, that by joining forces, we will all grow.

Ruth González Ayala - Design Intern B2B

What actions do you think can bring us closer to gender equality?

Communication. As humans, we have the gift of speech. I believe that knowing how to communicate as individuals gives us the opportunity to get closer to each other and understand the motivations that drive others. With this, and by listening (always respecting the points of view of others and understanding that everyone has different perspectives), only then will we achieve gender equity and equality.

Susana Basurto - Head of Brand and Innovation

What are you most proud of in your life and/or career?

Since I was little, I've been taught to be grateful. Without a doubt, living every day grateful for who I am and what surrounds me has been key to achieving my results and living in peace. I am proud to try to maintain a balance in my personal and professional life, so I can always give my best version in both environments.

Mariana Martínez Hernández - Creative Intern

What inspires you about other people?

Their attitude! Seeing how they live things or how they face life can fill me with inspiration and courage.

Ana Karina Valencia - Creative

What would you like to hear to motivate you during challenging times?

My phrase for those situations is: "Do everything without fear, and if you're afraid, do it with fear."

Lizbeth de Jesus - Creative Intern

Who is your real-life heroine?

My Mom
